Up for grabs here is a Hohner Professional L59 with a set Rosewood neck. Although this guitar is definitely playable as is, I am classifying it as a project guitar. When I bought this guitar it was in ok condition, but here are the things I've done to try and improve it:
- There used to be a tremolo (Floyd style I assume) installed. The hole has been filled in with a wood block and wood filler, and sanded down smooth. You can hardly tell there used to be one installed unless I actually point it out.
- Sanded and painted the top. Someone apparently tried to paint the top and did a terrible job. I stripped it down to the wood and repainted it with Nitrocellulose lacquer I bought from Stewart McDonald. There are 3 coats of Black, and 10 coats of clear satin Nitrocellulose on top of that. My paint job is a lot better than what was on there, but I'll admit it is not a 100% professional job. There are still some nicks and flakes on the top from the additional work I did.
- I rewired the pots, pickup selector and input jack with new wire. The wiring job is ok, though I still believe I'm missing a ground somewhere due to low output on the humbuckers and some ground noise when plugged into an amp. I'm sure this is a very easy fix, I just don't have time to keep messing with it. The bridge position pickup is wired to Gibson pots from a Les Paul Studio.
- The humbuckers are new GFS Vintage 59's.
- The bridge is new.
- The tremolo is a Bigsby style, bought used on eBay.
- The tuners are new.
- Volume and Tone knobs are original.
- The nut is brass and was installed when I received it.
Outstanding issues:
- The grounding noise when plugged into an amp, as mentioned above. The wiring needs to be gone over once again to straighten out any wiring issues.
- There is a large gash in the left side of the guitar as shown in the picture. It looks like someone dropped it on concrete, although it doesn't affect the stability of the guitar.
- There is no truss rod cover.
- There is no input jack cover.
- There are holes in the back of the headstock where the old tuners were removed and new ones were added.
I don't believe I'm missing anything major - I'm trying to be as honest as possible so whoever gets this guy will know what they have. It is a very heavy guitar given the double binding and the tremolo. Please ask any questions and I will be as descriptive as I can be. I can also take more pictures if anyone is interested in certain areas.
Comes with the hardshell case as shown, and shipping will be $25. Paypal required. Thanks for looking.
