You are bidding on a beautiful 1956 Hofner 456 acoustic archtop guitar. Hofner made similar models in both electric and acoustic. This one was never electrified. The tuners on this guitar have been changed out to Grovers, some might say an upgrade, but nevertheless, not original. The guitar is missing its pickguard and you can see the two holes on the neck and the lower part of the body where the guard would have been mounted. I have a friend in Belgium who is sending me an original Hofner pickguard, and if it arrives in time it will be included here. One of my favorite features is the great headstock design and logo. It is unique and very cool in my opinion. The general condition of the guitar I would describe as very good. It has a few bumps and scratches, but the finish is bright, it plays well, bindings are intact, a very beautiful instrument consistent with Hofner's reputation. They were good enough for the Beatles. Guitar will ship with hardshell case, I believe it to be original as well and in very good condition. here are some facts I dowloaded from a vintage guitar reference: | Hofner Model 456 | | Related Selmer Model | none | | Introduced | 1951? | | Body Size / Depth / Length | 16" lower bout, 12" upper bout, 3" depth, 20.25" long: available with or without venetian (round) cutaway, cutaway introduced in 1961 | | Body Woods | laminated; plain maple top, flamed bookmatched maple back, flamed maple sides. | | Finish | brown sunburst, blonde introduced 1955, sunburst 1961 | | Neck Woods | two piece maple three piece maple/ beech/ maple five piece maple/ mahogany/ maple/ mahogany/ maple | | Fingerboard Style / Woods / Inlay | rosewood fingerboard, mother -of-toilet-seat block neck inlay (or triple dot markers) single thin layer of white binding, nickel-silver frets, w/b/w plastic string spacer | | Peghead Overlay Style | three strip pattern of white mother -of-toilet-seat / mother-of- tortoiseshell / white mother -of-toilet-seat, each strip separated by thin detail of b/w purfling.
