This is another one of our auctions for 1950’s & 1960’s era musical instrument ephemera (see other listings for more items). This is an especially rare and minty Guild Guitars & Amplifiers catalog! It is undated but reasonably believed to be from 1963 because it is virtually the same catalog as the 1964 catalog except that it DOES NOT contain the 1964 date clearly visible on the front cover of the 1964 catalog (see our other auction for the 1964 Guild catalog and see this noted difference). As such, we have surmised that the catalog is a pre-1964 Guild catalog. There are several other small differences from the 1964 catalog including content, as some of the pages and the back page are different. The back page of the 1963 catalog features the VERY RARE and short lived Stratford Starfire SG-350 model which was introduced in 1961 and discontinued by 1964. The 1963 catalog also does not feature the D sized models, only the F shaped models. Finally, unlike the 1964 catalog, this 1963 catalog does contain prices of each instrument! In any event, this 1963 catalog is 16 pages and includes the full line of Guild guitars AND amplifiers available at the time…all the electric models, all the acoustic models, all the solid-bodies, all the arch-tops, all the flat-tops, all the classical and all the amplifiers made by Guild! It is in MINTY uncirculated condition. The pages are clean and crisp! It has been stored away since newly issued 50 years ago along with several other old Guild guitar catalogs we are listing in separate auctions. All in all, a very nice and desirable catalog for anyone owning an early 1960’s Guild musical instrument or for the collector of rare Guild Guitar Co ephemera. A Word About Our Pricing Decisions. Recently we noticed a 1964 Guild catalog selling on Ebay for $240 (see listing # 130214512532). This 1963 Guild catalog we have listed is undoubtedly far rarer than that catalog so we have decided to include a buy-it-now price, in addition to the auction format, for those people who prefer the convenience and efficiency of an immediate purchase and disdain the frustrating perils of the auction format where there is inevitably someone who snipes in prepared to outspend the rest! Although we prefer the no reserve auction format, letting the chips fall where they may approach, Ebay requires the seller to use a reserve in order to maintain the buy-it-now price. Once the reserve has been met however, the auction will proceed to the end where it’s anyone’s guess what the final price will be…c’est la vie !
